The Small but Strategic Tribe of Israel
The tribe of Benjamin may have been the smallest of Israel’s twelve tribes, but its territory was strategically vital. We've walked the hills between Jerusalem and Bethel, where Benjamin's land lay. This map highlights key cities like Gibeah, the hometown of King Saul, and Jericho, which bordered Benjamin's eastern edge. In the Bible, Benjamin's territory was the stage for stories of civil war (Judges 19–21) and the rise of Israel's first king. Later, the apostle Paul would identify himself as a Benjaminite (Romans 11:1). For travelers in the West Bank, this map helps locate the sites connected to Benjamin's legacy, from the ruins of Gibeon to the springs of Ein Prat.
